Members of our Lodge, visitors and guests are invited at our Festive Boards to make confidential donations for small local charities registered with the UK Charities Commission. Any member of the Lodge can nominate which Masonic or non-Masonic charity will receive these funds. It can be a small private or large public charity, local or national.
Additionally, for his year in Office, our reigning Worshipful Master chooses a charity registered with the UK Charities Commission for Lodge members to support with their private donations of no specific amount. These funds are received through the year and paid in full to the chosen charity at the end of his term in Office.
Freemasons on the Register of the United Grand Lodge of England and Wales are one of the largest contributors to charitable causes in the country, with a noteworthy almost £1 million donated per week. Additionally, more than 18.5 million hours of volunteer work are undertaken by Freemasons every year.
Through the Masonic Charitable Foundation (MCF) and local Lodges the organisation donates millions annually to Charity, focusing on medical research, hospices, vulnerable children and elderly support. Funded by members, we support both masonic families and wider community causes, including International Disaster Relief and food bank donations.
In addition to supporting its own, the MCF funds hundreds of charities across England and Wales, focusing on early years (0-5), dementia care, and children affected by domestic abuse.
We fund medical research, equipment (including ambulances), and support for hospices.
Freemasons are long-term supporters of London’s Air Ambulance Charity – have pledged to make the largest single donation of the charity’s helicopter fundraising appeal, "Up Against Time".
Our collective donations, totalling over £5 million in recent years, have funded two helicopters, rapid response cars, and helped sustain operations.
Freemasons heavily funded the acquisition of the £3mn CyberKnife robotic radiosurgery systems for London hospitals, notably St Bartholomew's Hospital. This non-invasive technology treats inoperable tumours using precise, high-energy radiation, with Freemasons raising significant funds for this and other medical advancements.
Freemasons are actively involved in fighting prostate cancer through major funding for research, awareness campaigns, and providing free, accessible testing for members and their communities, and have donated millions to advance diagnosis and treatment, and frequently host screening events.
