Our family tree takes us right back to Lion and Lamb Lodge No. 192. There are 67 Lodges including ours that descended from the Lion and Lamb Lodge spanning seven generations and this is illustrated, with Kindred Arts highlighted for reference, in the family tree below. 

Kindred Arts Lodge ceremonies are conducted in Logic Ritual. There are currently 40 out of 1,133 Lodges in the London Metropolitan Area that are working 'Logic Ritual'. In 1881, Freemasons from the 'Theatrical Profession' came together on Sunday mornings to form their own 'instruction' group and practice performing the Craft ceremonies; something they were unable to do on the usual weekday evenings due to the nature of their professions. Their style of 'performing' the ceremonies with passion and feeling was somewhat different to the catechism style of instruction that was prevalent at that time and soon gained much notoriety and support and subsequently a large following. Having addressed certain, 'Biblical, Grammatical & Logical' inaccuracies that they identified in the ritual, they began to work the craft ceremonies according to their workings and thus, the 'Logic Club' was formed. This style of 'performing' the Craft Ceremonies with emotion in this way creates a very structured, accurate and disciplined display, to amplify its meaning and to engage the senses, as you would expect of a very good theatrical performance, which leaves a lasting impression. Consecrated in March 1939, Kindred Arts Lodge was so named because it was sponsored by the Chelsea Lodge, whose Charter was granted to the Members of the musical, theatrical, and vaudeville professions or those closely allied to them. It was formed because of the difficulty experienced by some members of the Chelsea Lodge in attending Meetings of that Lodge, which opened in the morning with a break until late afternoon.

One of the most active in the formation of the Lodge was W. Bro. H J Fink PGStB, an American citizen who became a founder. He was the first Senior Warden and designed the Crest of the Lodge, which embodies all the activities and professions of the founders. The central figure represents the Mother of the Arts, with the artist’s palette in the left hand and the right hand holding the geared wheel which represents the engineering and mechanical professions of the founders and in particular the first Treasurer, W. Bro. L T Baxter. On the right of the figure is a reporters’ notebook with the word “News” which refers to W. Bro. Fink. The Lyre refers to the musical attributes of some founders, in particular to the late Bro. Teddy Brown, the well-known vaudeville artiste who was the Lodge’s first Organist. The barrister’s wig relates to the legal profession and refers to Bro. Paisner. The first Master of the Lodge and also a Past Master of the Chelsea Lodge, W. Bro. G W Batt, was a banker and his profession is depicted by the banker’s shovel and money while the theatrical interests of some of the founders and of the Chelsea Lodge are represented by the masks.

Kindred Arts Lodge has thrived through the years and sponsored the setting up of two daughter Lodges (Mount Carmel which no longer exists, and Mount Sinai which continues to thrive). It celebrated its Jubilee and 75^th Anniversary meetings in style with many members and guests attending. Its Lodge of Instruction was established in 1958 and continues to meet most weeks. During the Covid pandemic period of National and Masonic shutdown, the Lodge established a program of Zoom-based lectures and talks on Masonic and non-Masonic themes and collected charitable donations for the British Heart Foundation. This in turn established use of the Zoom virtual meeting App for members to rehearse permitted LOI activity.
